Specific recommendations have been made in the PAC report on the National Feedlot Centre project to be tabled in Parliament on Dec 3.
KUALA LUMPUR: The Public Accounts Committee’s report on the scandal-ridden National Feedlot Centre (NFC) project will be tabled in Parliament on Dec 3 with recommendations for the authorities to take action.
PAC head Nur Jazlan Mohamed said he hoped the authorities would act on the specific recommendations made.
“People are only aware of issues that are brought to the court,” Nur Jazlan told reporters after chairing a meeting in Parliament here.
Nur Jazlan said the Customs director-general and Inland Revenue Board (IRB) CEO had been called before the PAC to explain tax management weaknesses in their departments.
He also stressed the need to educate the people on the importance of paying taxes and disclosing how public funds were spent.
“We need to increase the number of taxpayers. Therefore it is important to educate the people that taxes is the main revenue of many countries.
“We are also looking into creating awareness so taxpayers will know how their money is spent,” he added.
Earlier this month, the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) revealed that the allegations against the NFC scandal were indeed true.
It said the Agriculture Ministry had awarded the project to a company which had no technical or financial capabilities.
The NFC project was awarded to NFCorp, run by the husband and children of then cabinet minister Shahrizat Abdul Jalil.
Shahrizat resigned from her post as senator and Minister for Women’s Affairs following the scandal.
